WINERIES AND TERROIR
WE COUNT WITH A WINERY AND A CELAR BUILT IN STONE. THIS ALLOWS TO PRODUCE TOP QUALITY WINES IN OPTIMAL HUMIDITY, TEMPERATURE AND HEALTH CONDITIONS.
Most of the building heritage dates back to the second half of the 19th century, with numerous colonial-style constructions built in stone and thick walls.
THE WINE CELLAR
The two-level cellar where the wines age is built in stone with walls of more than 2 feet wide. This “aging cellar”- as we call it- was built undermining the middle of the hill. Here, temperatures range between 11º and 18ºC throughout the year. This caring place is where our wines rest and age in large casks and oak barrels and in bottle, stowed one by one, with patience and dedication.
ITS EXCEPTIONAL GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION, WHERE LA PLATA AND SAN JUAN RIVERS MEET, MAKE OUR WINERY A UNIQUE PLACE TO PRODUCE QUALITY WINES, AS IT ENJOYS A STONY SOIL COMPOSITION, ON THE SLOPES OF THE HILLS.
Located in Colonia department (province), Uruguay, which enjoys a gently undulating geography crossed by numerous rivers and streams. The characteristics of the climate and type of soil make this area the ideal place for grape growing. The vines grow and flourish encompassed by nature and the grapes thrive in a natural and healthy environment.
The climatic conditions of this region –surrounded by gentle hills and the proximity of San Juan and La Plata rivers- present sunny summers with cool nights, with wide temperature ranges (up to 64ºF). The seasons of the year are well differentiated and it occasionally rains. The region enjoys a wide day-night thermal range during the harvest season.
AN IDEAL TERROIR WHERE TOP QUALITY GRAPES GROW.
TYPE OF SOIL
The viticultural attributes of the type of soil of Los Cerros de San Juan are determined by the rocky nature of the mountains, with excellent drainage, that delimit the region. The red and white grape varieties grow on a boulder soil where they reach the desired maturity levels under the best climatic conditions.
